How “French Kids Eat Everything”

I recently started reading “French Kids Eat Everything” by Karen La Billon. In the book, Karen Le Billon was able to alter her children’s deep-rooted, decidedly unhealthy North American eating habits while they were living in France for a year. It was eye opening. Caleb isn’t necessarily a picky eater but he doesn’t eat as well, or have as varied of a diet, as I would like. We fall into the same rut as most parents in the United States – chicken nuggets, french fries, snacks at their demand. But it doesn’t feel right to me. I know in my…

Creating a Memorable Secondhand Christmas

In one of the Facebook groups I’m in for December babies, someone recently asked what our Christmas budget was for our kids. I saw a lot of numbers – ranging from almost a thousand dollars to just a few hundred (per child) but no one had as low of a budget as me. My budget is $50 for my son. Now, this post is in no way shaming anyone. I don’t care what someone spends on their child for Christmas. What I care about it what we spend on our child for Christmas. Our TTC Journey: Mira Fertility Tracker

When I first stumbled upon the Mira Fertility Tracker back in March, I made it a point to read the reviews. A lot of reviews, since it wasn’t exactly cheap (about $199 to start, then you have to buy the wands every month or so). Pepper Jelly (Recipe)

The first time I had pepper jelly, it was served to me at a work potluck, topping a block of softened cream cheese with some bacon bits and spring onion. Amazing. The second time I had it was smeared over tuna – a dish that I created based on something my mom had at a friend’s house. But I never thought about making my own jar of pepper jelly until my mom asked to borrow some of our peppers for some. She traded me a box of pectin for the peppers and I knew I had to make some. I’m…

Let’s Talk About Okra

I feel like people who don’t like okra are the ones who have only experienced it being slimy and gross, similar to snot. Not very appetizing to most of us, right? But I LOVE okra. I love the gorgeous flowers that appear on okra plants. I love how quickly they grow. I love eating them fresh, pickled, preserving them. The only thing I don’t like about okra is how the plants always make my arms break out when I’m picking. One of my favorite ways to eat okra fresh is by roasting them.  Heat your oven to 400*F and slice…
